Pilates is one of the fastest growing forms of exercise in the world. Developed from the rehabilitation techniques of Joseph Pilates it is a refreshing form of exercise which emphasis's  breathing, correct spine, pelvis, shoulder and all body alignment.

The quality of movement is valued over the quantity of movement so we can concentrate on where the body is in relation to its surroundings and the control of movement.

Pilates teaches us to be body aware to breathe efficiently, to move with little effort, to be a able to concentrate and to develop a healthy body and mind.

The Pilates technique was developed from a rehabilitation viewpoint and with participation of top level ballet dancers and athletes. It is often used for improving and reviving structure and movement ability -Back pain, shoulder problems, pelvic injuries, breathing difficulties, posture , range of movement, sports injuries.

Some conditions which could benefit from Pilates are:

  • Spinal pathologies-Slip Disc, Degenerative changes,Spondylolisthesis, Hypo or Hypermobility Syndrome;

The beginners courses are intended to give a taste of what pilates is and after the first 6 week course you will begin to feel the benefits.

Each course lasts for 6 weeks (one class a week over six weeks) and we cater for beginner and intermediate levels.

In Pilates one to one sessions (1:1) you get to use the body conditioning machines notorious with the Pilates name. Pilates rehabilitation helps you recover and prevent injuries.

It also helps build stronger core body strength,improve spinal mobility, stability as well as muscle flexibility. These are key requirements for a healthy body and good posture.

After suffering a bone or muscle injury it is common for people to take up Pilates to get back to a balanced body.

1:1 sessions include a full body assessment and this usually takes 1  - 1.5 hours for the first session and 1 hour for subsequent sessions.

After this a program is put together by the pilates practitioner to work on problem areas and specific goal achievement.
